We thought you might like to find out more about Father Christmas so below is an interview with the man himself. If you would like to know more about Santa's home, find the answers to the most frequently asked Santa questions or research the history of Santa Claus, then please see the links at the bottom of this page.
Do you prefer to be called Santa Claus or Father Christmas?
I’m very happy with either. Most people call me ‘Santa’ because it’s short
What do you like for breakfast?
Mmm, usually toast with honey or a big bowl of porridge
And what about dinner?
Mrs Claus makes a very good stew, with lots of dumplings. Just the thing to warm you up on a frosty day.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I desperately wanted to be an astronaut or, if that didn’t work out, Santa Claus was a very close second
Who is your hero?
Jack Frost- he can travel about even quicker than me on a sleigh with 20 reindeer!
Do you have a favourite song?
Jingle bells. Whenever I hear the song, it makes me feel extra happy.
Ever tempted to shave off the beard?
No way! Mrs Claus would very upset if I did.
Do you prefer a chimney or no chimney?
I like both, whooshing down a chimney is great and the soot tickling my nose is funny, but no chimney is quicker and cleaner
Do you like animals?
Yes, I like them very much. I’ve met some very interesting cats, dogs and other pets on my travels and of course I love my reindeer- they are lots of fun.
Do you love all children?
Yes, every child is special to me.
Do you always wear your red suit?
Not when I’m in bed- I have cosy brown pyjamas with reindeer faces all over.
What do you do on Christmas Day?
After all that running around the night before Christmas, I usually feel very tired, so Mrs Claus, Me, the elves and reindeer have a quiet day, relaxing together. We eat and drink and share jokes. Later in the afternoon we have a dance but everyone goes to bed very early that evening.
Finally, have you got a message for the children reading this?
To all of you reading this, young and old, be good and have a very Merry Christmas! I'll be visiting you very soon.
